Tendonitis anyone?

Tendonitis anyone?

If you follow any professional sport that involves running, you are likely to hear of a player who is suffering from tendonitis. But, what is it? And, do you have it?

All muscles of your extremities (arms, legs, hands, feet, etc.) have tendons. The tendon is the part of the muscle that attaches to bone. They are critical to movement, acting as “lever arms” that guide the skeletal system. If you stress a tendon by overusing certain muscles, like by playing basketball or running a long distance, the tendon where that muscle attaches to the bone can become irritated and inflamed. The result: tendonitis.

But it’s not just athletic activity that causes tendonitis. Some people have flat feet or high arches, which puts excessive stress on the feet and causes muscle fatigue. Walking becomes uncomfortable, even unbearable at times.

Remedies for tendonitis can restore you to full activity. It can be as simple as a custom-designed arch to help balance your feet or it could take more involved treatment. To find out what you need, it’s best to get the advice of a skilled podiatrist.
